Betweem Kismet and Karma, ‘Kissing Fate’

‘Kissing Fate’ is my response to the exhibition Between Kismet and Karma: South Asian Women Artists Respond to Conflict held at Leeds Art Gallery, 2010 and featuring 11 female south Asian artists including Shilpa Gupta and Priya Sen.

My commissioned article explores the curatorial agenda in relation to the formal artistic practice and political-historic context of contemporary South Asian art produced by this group of female artists and issues of division,  post-colonial displacement, environmental degradation and identity as a site of conflict.

The exhibition Between Kismet and Karma: South Asian Women Artists Respond to Conflict was part of a programme including a residency series, symposium, film festival, art intervention programme and associated publications.
