‘The System Is Done, Let’s Start Again’ extends my exploration of current global economic crisis and the notion of value (of self, of resources, of product). The performance responds to endemic price rises, welfare cuts and international trade deficits. It restages governmental implementations to control, regulate and protect the interests of their own nation state and considers global migratory flows towards a sustainable model of complex human mobility. Such factors as key to resolve individual freedom and a basic human right to flourish in egalitarian society. Beginning with the act of exchange, the actions chart the free flow of goods and people between nation states and redistribution of wealth through reconstruction of import/export migratory routes prompted by a series of audience interaction. The first produce for trade is the banana; significant fruit in international trade and staple source of income, employment and earnings stability for many developing countries. Subsequently, I trigger a chain of exchanges inviting audience to barter and choose trade flow. Each mapped interchange represents a trade import/export between nations and allows individual chance to voice his wishes and resolution towards an inclusive cyclic recovery across borders. Whether the outcome and interchange with artist is productive or mooted by absurdity of personal bias, audience response prompts us to considers and reflect on trade deficit, overpopulation, wealth/poverty power imbalance and any possible means to broker futile political occupation.
